About the breed

Muzar, Stallion Champion in Europe 1998

The Akhal Teke is an ancient breed from Turkmenistan. It was used for generations as a war horse, fast and hardy, able to go long distances with little food or water. Today in Turkmenistan it is used as a race horse. The Akhal Teke is an endangered breed, with perhaps 300 in the US and 500 in Europe. The majority of Akhal Teke are in Turkmenistan and Russia.

In America, Akhal Teke compete and excel in 3 day eventing, endurance riding and grand prix dressage. Characteristics are a narrow horse with long neck and back, and usually an iridescent coat. They stand between 15 to 16 hands tall, and are known to steal your heart.
